INTRODUCTION:

Located in Torbay, South Devon, Churston Ferrers Grammar School (CFGS) is a well-known coeducational institution. The mission statement of CFGS, a prestigious institution holding Specialist Humanities College status, is "Learning to create a better world." The school's remarkable results in exam ratings, which demonstrate its constant rating of 'excellent' by OFSTED, highlight its dedication to academic success. The most recent GCSE results are impressive, showing 65% of students achieving a grade 7 or higher.

These successes result from teachers' devoted work and students' dedication to greatness, which is reinforced by a well-rounded curriculum. Prioritizing a comprehensive approach to education, CFGS balances academic rigor with a wide range of extracurricular activities, such as netball, rugby, chess, debating, and other clubs like Sailing Theory and Birdwatching, all promoting students' overall growth and solid friendships.

Furthermore, CFGS prioritizes inclusiveness and encouragement within its lively community, ensuring that all students receive equal chances regardless of their background. The primary goal of the school is to provide an environment of creativity, inclusivity, and support so that every student feels appreciated and accepted. CFGS seeks to inculcate in students a lifetime enthusiasm for learning as well as a dedication to social justice by pushing them to go above and beyond what they think is possible and to seize chances. This all-encompassing approach reflects the school's larger goal of developing responsible global citizens by giving pupils the values and abilities they need to have a good impact on the world around them.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

As part of the Torbay Consortium, Churston Ferrers Grammar School evaluates applicants for admission using the 11 Plus exam, a common assessment taken by all of Torbay's elite schools. To familiarize themselves with the setting and personnel, the school advises parents to register their kids for the exam at Churston Ferrers. Every year, the school holds an Open Day where parents and kids are welcome to visit the school, meet the teachers and students, and see presentations about the 11 Plus process given by the head teacher. Visitors can also watch classes to learn more about the academic atmosphere and educational program of the institution.

Oversubscription Criteria:

The school does not have its oversubscription criteria.

EXAM FORMAT:

With a focus on elementary school curricula, the Churston Ferrer 11 Plus examination is meant to correspond alongside the Year 5 National Curriculum. Test results from students are the most important factor in admission after just one testing round. The examination consists of timed portions with multiple-choice questions that assess different components. These components include language ability, reasoning abilities, mathematical aptitude, and comprehension. To be admitted to the school, students must prove their proficiency in each of these areas. The format of the test is a reflection of a thorough assessment method designed to gauge students' preparedness and ability based on the curriculum requirements of their elementary school years.

The following elements will be tested:

  • English

  • Mathematics

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

It takes efficient planning and early revision to get ready for the 11 Plus exam. Working with your child to create a study schedule guarantees that all exam topics will be covered. Early practice using practice papers identifies areas for growth and enables customized study schedules. Students get familiarity and confidence with test formats and question kinds through practice papers. Timed practice papers help you get better at managing your time and answering questions quickly and confidently as the test draws closer.
