INTRODUCTION:

The Tiffin Girls' School is a vibrant and joyful institution where its pupils occupy center stage. It is a selective state school and independent academy. The school, which has 1,235 students enrolled in ages 11 through 18, is celebrating its 144th year of offering an education that enables students to live up to the school's motto, sapere aude; translated as; "dare to be wise." In 2011, the institute changed its voluntary aid status to an academy.

The institute takes pride in inspiring students to strive for greatness in whatever they choose to do, whether that is academic brilliance, love, and enthusiasm for the performing and visual arts, athletic ability, or student leadership. A comprehensive and demanding curriculum coexists with a variety of engaging and satisfying extracurricular activities. These aspects of school life, many of which are student-led, work together to create successful young people who are inquisitive, self-assured, dynamic, and prepared for life as global citizens.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

The institute focuses on girls within its catchment area and admits students after academic selection, using tests in English and Mathematics. The assessments were previously both verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests, with a Mathematics and English test being introduced in 2012. English and Mathematics were tested in both rounds starting in 2015, and the school gave females from its catchment area who received pupil premium money additional priority. Each year, 180 new students—an increase from 150—are admitted to the institution.

Oversubscription Criteria:

  • Girls with an EHC (Education, Health, and Care) Plan on which the school is listed.

  • Children who are being cared for or who have previously been cared for and whose aggregate score is greater than or equivalent to the 350th percentile.

  • Up to 60 females who reside in the priority area have a combined score that is greater than or equivalent to the 350th mark score. Within this group, students who are eligible for the pupil premium are given priority.

  • Girls residing within the prioritized area.

  • Girls residing outside of the prioritized area.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

The applicant has to submit an online registration to sign up for the exams. On a certain application date, online registration becomes available. The Supplementary Information Form is known as the SIF. All instructions, including the requirement that parents upload a current photo of their daughter to the SIF, are available on the link for registration on the school's website.

CATCHMENT AREA:

The catchment area, also named the ‘inner area’, is comprised of; Berrylands, Canbury Gardens, Coombe Hill, Coombe Vale, Green Lane & St James, Kingston Gate, Kingston Town, New Malden Village, Norbiton, St Mark's & Seething Wells, Surbiton Hill, Tudor, Ham, Petersham and Richmond Riverside.

EXAM FORMAT:

Your child's examination paper will be graded following the Stage One exams to present raw scores. The sum of these two scores will then be age-standardized to prevent children born later in the academic year from being at a disadvantage.

The kids who scored highest will be asked back to take the Stage Two exam in November. This will also be age-standardized, and a final weighted score will be determined for every child that includes:

  • Mathematics 40% (Stage One 30% and Stage Two 10%)

  • English 60% (Whole from Stage Two)

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

The candidates will be graded according to their overall weighted scores, with 10% of the variance given to underprivileged kids' test results. The Tiffin Girls' School will choose students from the top-ranking scores; there is no set passing score. The lowest cumulative score for admission to the institution which was offered in 2022, was 107.
