INTRODUCTION:

Founded in 1880, Tiffin School motivates its students to excel academically as well as to develop as well-rounded persons with their abilities, skills, interests, personalities, and overall character to succeed in the wider world. Tiffin is a distinctive, dynamic, and interesting school. With over 1400 pupils, including 500 in the Sixth Form, Tiffin is a sizable, prosperous institution that enjoys tremendous popularity. Tiffin has a long tradition of offering a top-notch education, with the School being founded in Kingston in 1880 and its roots dating back to the seventeenth century. Tiffin is a forward-thinking, global, and dynamic school that is equally proud of its history and committed to assisting students in becoming well-rounded, productive members of society.

The Tiffin School’s education is supported by its goals and vision in a competitive and academically demanding setting. Moreover, at Tiffin, we believe that education should be about more than just academic success; it should also be about developing the individual as a whole. As a result, we give students the chance and support to participate in a truly remarkable range of activities that will foster and nurture dedication, leadership, teamwork, responsibility, accountability, and confidence. In particular, we make investments in a broad curriculum that reflects our expertise in the performing arts, languages, and sports. We also provide them with a superb, specially designed PSHE program to help them prepare for the rigors of modern British life.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

English and math tests are used to academically select students for enrollment in the Tiffin School. 180 pupils are accepted each year for year 7 at the institution. Students have been allowed to apply to attend Tiffin for Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) since at least 2002; between 35–40% of the boys are 'new boys,' coming from other schools. GCSE results are used to determine admission to the sixth form.

Oversubscription Criteria:

  • Boys with an EHC (Education, Health and Care) Plan on which the school is specified

  • Children who are currently being cared for and/or were previously being cared for and whose total score is above or equal to the 400th percentile

  • Boys who meet the requirements for the pupil premium, reside in a priority area and have cumulative test scores that are at least as high as the 400th percentile

  • Boys who reside in the prioritized area

  • Boys who don't reside in the prioritized area

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Registering for the 11-plus Stage One exams is the first step in the application process if a candidate wants to be considered for a spot at Tiffin School. All boys applying for admittance into Year 7 must pass these exams, and those who are shortlisted are then called back for Stage Two.

Check the admissions requirements of Tiffin School and make sure the child qualifies before marking it as a preference on their application. As more boys attain the qualifying requirement each year compared to the number of openings, passing the second step of the examination will still not guarantee a place.

CATCHMENT AREA:

The catchment area for the Tiffin School (also known as the "priority area") extends outward 10 kilometers from the school's location. All kids will be regarded as living inside the catchment area if their homes are within a straight line distance of 10 km from the school.

EXAM FORMAT:

The candidate's test paper will be graded following the Stage One exams to deliver raw scores. The sum of these two scores will then be age-standardized to prevent children born later in the academic year from being at a disadvantage.

The kids who scored the best will be asked back to take the Stage Two exam in November. This will also be age-standardized, and a final weighted score will be determined for every child that includes:

  • Mathematics 50% (20% from Stage One and 30% from Stage Two)

  • English 50% (All from Stage Two)

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

The children will be graded according to their overall weighted scores, with 10% flexibility given to underprivileged kids' test results. There is no set threshold score, and Tiffin School will choose students based on their greatest rankings. The lowest cumulative score for which admission to the institution was made available in 2022 at 103.
